It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Isabel Genevia Canavan, 92, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, resident of the Northside Community Guest Home and formerly of Tobin Road, on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Little Pond, Isabel was the daughter of the late William and Florence (MacPhee) Stubbert.
For a number of years she was an Avon representative and also operated a convenience store on Tobin Road. She was a member of the Gospel Hall on Yorke Street in Sydney Mines.
She is survived by her sons, Wayne (Diane) Canavan, North Sydney, and Russell (Donna) Clarke, North Sydney; two daughters, June (George) Jaques, North Sydney, Sherry (David) Porter, Sydney Mines; and daughter-in-law, Wanda Canavan, Tobin Road; her three sisters, Elaine (Fred) Blagdon, Tobin Road, Bernadette Glover, Sydney Mines, Yvonne (Willie) Johnston, Tobin Road; her three brothers, William (Kay) Stubbert, Guelph, Ont., George Stubbert, Kitchener, Ont., and Orville (Florence) Stubbert, Sydney Mines. Also surviving are her 12 grandchildren, Brenda Canavan, Shelly Lynn Fraser, Noelle Canavan-Rose, Donna Canavan, Dale MacMullin, Sylvia Jaques, Wilson Jaques, Becky Jaques, Lorraine Russell, Lloyd Jaques, George Wayne Jaques and Shelly Lynn Gerrow; her 22 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Canavan, her son, Lloyd Canavan, her granddaughter, Katrina Canavan, her grandson, David Canavan, great-grandson, Gregory David Canavan, great-granddaughter, Erika Collier, her sisters, Louise Gouthro, Marcella 'Queenie' Bethune, Gloria Stagg, Sylvia Clarke and Joan and June in infancy.
Visitation for Isabel will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service to be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Gospel Hall on Yorke Street, Sydney Mines with Pastor David Swan officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
