It is with deep sadness and broken hearts we announce the passing of Margaret Fraser, Sydney Mines, formerly of Lamond Street, in Cranberry for the past year and a half. She was a resident of the Cove Guest Home, Alexandra Street, Sydney — a place she fondly called “home”.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Maisie Bell (Fraser) Forrest. She was married to Russell Fraser in 1934 and spent 59 wonderful years together until his death in 1993.
Margaret, better known as Grannie Fraser will be forever remembered by family, friends and neighbours as leading a simple and basic life, with a genuine love for, and kindness towards people. Her most unique and compassionate manner made her so rich in so many beautiful ways. She was simply a kind and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Margaret, for many years was involved with the Royal Canadian Legion in Sydney Mines and thoroughly enjoyed many of the activities they had to offer. She was an adherent of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines.
Margaret is survived by two daughters, Maisie Caldwell, Sydney Mines, and Agnes (Sandy) Scott, Sydney; four sons, John (Olive), Sydney Mines, Alexander (Jeanette), Ontario, Erwin (Mabel) and Edward (Sally), Sydney Mines; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; one very special sister, Libby MacMullin, Sydney Mines; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by son-in-law, Donald Caldwell, daughter-in-law, Sharon Fraser, grandsons, Sheldon Caldwell and Roger Fraser, brother, Eddie and Billy as well as seven half brothers and four half sisters.
Visitation will be Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Marion Barklay MacKay officiating. Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. Reception to follow in the Royal Canadian Legion, Sydney Mines.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be may to the Cove Guest Home, Sydney, or to a charity of choice.
Grannie, you will live on in our hearts . . . until we meet again.
