OLSEN, Opal Ivy - 62, Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, January 23, 2011, at home. Born July 17, 1948, in Miramichi, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late James and Monica (Petrie) Hay. Opal worked at Hotel Dieu Hospital, Miramichi, and came to Truro 15 years ago. A devoted family woman, Opal dedicated herself to raising her family and providing them with much love and care. She enjoyed listening to music and especially loved Elvis. Opal is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Patrick Ronald "Pat"; children, Kyle Olsen, Jeff Olsen (Tammy MacKinnon), Melanie Olsen (Kevin DesRoches), all of Truro; Lisa Olsen (Chris Hurley), Bible Hill; grandchildren, Jordan, Skyler, Emily, Damian, Billy, Kirsten; sisters, Roberta Ford, Marie (Roger) Morton, Ontario; Jenny (Edward) LeGresley, Chatham Head, New Brunswick; Christina (Walter) O'Toole, Nelson, New Brunswick; Rhona (George) Muir, Dianne Scott, Chatham, New Brunswick; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth "Libby" Hay, Chatham, New Brunswick; Mary Hay, Douglastown, New Brunswick; several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Marilyn Churchill, Shirley Blacquier; brothers, William Hay, Lawrence Hay, Johnny Hay. Opal's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care Team, VON and Hospice Society who made our journey easier. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Opal's family will receive friends from 2-4, 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, January 26, 2011, and where the funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, January 27, 2011, Reverend Brian DeLong officiating.
