It is with deep sadness we the family announce the passing of our dear mother, wife, daughter, grandmother, and friend, Lexie Parsons, following a brave battle with cancer. She was 61.
Lexie passed away Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family members.
She was born Sept. 27, 1949 and was the daughter of Mary (McNeil) of Reserve Mines and the late John Campbell.
For many years Lexie was an active member of the Cape Breastoners, a special family of cancer survivors who were committed to dragon boat racing and raising awareness of breast cancer. For several months of the year you would find her at her cottage or on her boat, enjoying her family and many Mira neighbours and friends. An avid reader, you rarely found her without a book, ready to share or recommend a great read.
Left to mourn is her devoted husband of 44 years, Joe Parsons, and their children, Lisa (Calvin) Osborne, Glace Bay, Audrey (Blair) Maclellan, Sydney, and Joey (Jenn) Parsons, Glace Bay. She leaves behind the light of her life, her six cherished grandchildren, Cynthia, Brandon, Anthony, Katie, Regan and Caleb. Lexie cherished every moment with them, and provided countless memories, for them to carry with them throughout their lives. Also left to mourn are her brothers, Ronnie (Tood) and Willie (Karen), both of Reserve, Brian (Jean), Dominion, sister-in-law, Myrtle Campbell, Glace Bay, and mother-in-law, Audrey Moskalow, Brampton, Ont., along with many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, John, sister, Janie and a brother, Bernie.
The family extends a heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the professional medical staff who cared for Lexie during her illness, particularly the Palliative care team, VON, and staff at the Cancer Centre. You are angels of mercy, and your help and compassion will never be forgotten.
At Lexie's request there will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2011, in St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Norman MacPhee officiating.
Memorial donations and expressions of sympathy can be sent to the Cancer Centre and Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
