Robert Morrison (Bob) Calder, 83, of Orchard Court (Shannex), Kentville, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011 at home. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, he was a son of the late Wallace and Grace (Hollowell) Calder. He grew up in the small town of Montmartre, Saskatchewan during the "hungry 30s", and through his life worked as a farmer, a lumberjack, in a fish packing plant and as a newspaper linotype operator and compositor. Before his retirement, he was foreman of the composing room at Kentville Publishing. Throughout his life he enjoyed dancing, teaching Round Dancing, woodworking, and reading. He was an accomplished all-round handyman who took pleasure in helping others. He is survived by a daughter, Joanna (Kevin) Fleming, Ottawa, Ontario; a step-daughter, Julie Matthews (Gary Grant), Hammonds Plains; a sister, Winnifred "Winnie" Manz, Thamesville, Ontario; four grandsons, Michael Sangster, Stephen Sangster, Jamie Fleming and Matthew Fleming; three great grandsons, Lucas, Logan and Ryan, his granddaughter of the spirit, Michelle (Simpson) Davies and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Norine Walker; two sisters, Edna DeDecker and Grace Hawkesford; two brothers, Spencer and Wallace. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2011, Reverend Bob Davies officiating. Family flowers only, donations in memory may be made to the Save the Children Canada or The War Amps.
