1924-2011
William Allin (Bud) Thompson, born November 18, 1924, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Shirley (Betty) Potts.
Bud was born in Montague, P.E.I., son of Charles Cameron Thompson and Katie Lea Stanley. Bud graduated from Prince of Wales, served in the Army during the Second World War, graduated from Queen's Applied Science in 1949, and went on to earn his P.Eng. He worked for Bell, Northern Electric and Northern Telecom, retiring in 1980.
Bud and Betty are survived by their four daughters and their families: Christine (Sarah Robinson); Ann (Glen Pearce, Katherine and Jonathan); Katie (Christopher Wallace, Michael, Lizzy and Annie) and Jane (Craig Applegath, Cameron).
The family thanks Dr. Cristoveanu for many years of attentive and compassionate care of both Bud and Betty in Kingston, and also the staff and residents of the Dunfield Retirement Residence in Toronto, all of whom worked so hard to offer Bud a warm welcome and sense of community in his last months.
Bud's ashes will rest in Sherwood Cemetery in P.E.I. A reception in celebration of Bud and Betty's lives will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a remembrance may be made to a charity of one's choice.
