of Trepassey- Passed peacefully away at her home in St. John's on Sunday, January 23, 2011, surrounded by loving family and friends, at the age of 88 years. Leaving to mourn with countless wonderful memories, her children: Don (Mary Fagan), Nell (Loyola McNeil), Dolores (Herman MacNeil), Lorraine (Neil Devereaux), Michael (Joan), Sharon (Bob Meredith), Denis (Sharon), Rosemary (David Kennedy), Janis (John Swantee), and Mona. Grandchildren: Tina and Chris Power; Alison and Joseph McNeil; Rodney, Heidi, and Justin MacNeil; Neala, Lesley, and Marc Devereaux; Michelle, Jeffrey, Michael and Melissa Power; Barry, Brittany and Jordan Meredith; Ashley, Sydnie and Denis Power; Tyler and Cassondra Kennedy; Stefan and Kirsten Swantee. Thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Brothers: John (Joan), Msgr. Denis, Ernie (Terri) and sister Rosemary (Nick Tobin). Brother-in law, Tom Power and his wife and Mom's dearest friend Nora, and sister-in-law Anne Cahill. Loving caregiver and devoted companion, Betty Ring. Many nieces, nephews and special friends. Predeceased by her strong and generous husband Michael, gentle parents Denis and Mary Ellen Walsh; sister Nancy Sutera and brothers: Ron and Francis. Stella, originally from Merasheen Island, was born with a love of learning. She attended Littledale and Memorial University where she began her studies at the tender age of 16, as student number 99. She taught school at Fox Cove, Burin, before moving to Portugal Cove South, where she met the love of her life, Michael Power, fondly known as the Skipper. She raised ten children and fostered in them and in her many grandchildren, her love of learning and her gifts of kindness, quick wit and keen Scrabble skills. With warm-heartedness and genuine concern, she enriched the lives of everyone she met. Resting at Fahey's Funeral Home, Trepassey on Monday, January 24, 7 to 9 p.m.; Tuesday, January 25, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Wednesday, January 26, 10 a.m. -12.
