FRIESEN - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nickolas (Nick) Friesen of Waldeck, SK, at the Herbert Integrated Health Facility on June 26, 2009, at the age of 93 years. Nick was born on his parents' farm on May 9, 1916. He attended school at the Spenst school and was married to Virginia Eleanor Hagman on June 29, 1940. Nick had an extensive work history including the Matador Ranch, prospecting in Northern Manitoba, working for the Teulon family, the smelters in Trail, BC, and then he moved back to Waldeck where he farmed until his retirement. Nick was a founding member of the Beaver Flats Telephone Company, as well as a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, Waldeck Water Users, Waldeck School Board, Golden Age Club and last but most important to him was being a member of the Canadian Hereford Association where he excelled in showing the cattle he raised. Nick also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, golfing, music, dancing and travelling. No matter what he did, he gave it all he had, heart, mind and soul. He touched a lot of lives, especially his family who meant the world to him. He will be remembered and missed by those he left behind. Nick leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife, Virginia; son, Wayne (Marie); grandchildren, Tyler, Colin (Sandy); great grandchildren Luke and Logan; daughter, Bea (John); grandchildren, Sheri (Tim); great grandchildren, Hunter, Jaeda, Gage and Ashtyn, Patti; and great grandson, Nicholas; brothers and sisters, Emma Reitenbach, Tillie (Curtis) Janke, Agnes Friesen, Albert (Alvera) Friesen, Glady (Ray) Buzan, Art (Angeline) Friesen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edna Meyer, Grace Hagman, Shirley Hagman, Clayton Hagman, Quinton Hagman, Olaf Olson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Nick was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Helena Friesen; Jake and Vivian Friesen, Abe and Willa Friesen, Ben Friesen, Hazel and Art Wiebe, Henry Reitenbach, Kermit Hagman, Elwood Hagman, Willard Meyer, Inez Olson, Harvey and Mary Staple, Pat and Victoria Sather and Ann Hagman. A graveside service was held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK, with Pastor Larry Losey officiating. A gathering of remembrance was held that afternoon at the Friesen Family Farm with Tim Ostoforoff reading the eulogy. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
