Patrick Gillespie

1934 - 2011 - Moncton - Patrick E. Gillespie, 76, died at the Moncton Hospital on January 18, 2011. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Frank H. and Catherine M. (Savage) Gillespie. Patrick is survived by three brothers, Donald of Vancouver, BC, Terrence of Halifax, NS, and Brian of Sackville, NB; one sister, Mary Catherine (Gillespie) Peters of Charlottetown, PE; also several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Vincent, Bernard, and Raymond. Patrick was educated in Moncton schools and in 1954 began employment with the CNR and remained with CN until early retirement because of a medical disability. He was active in parish, civic and political affairs. As organist and pianist, Patrick participated in the music liturgy of both St. Augustine's and St. Bernard's RC churches and helped in community kitchen duties for parish functions. He served on the District 15 school board for a term and was an Honorary Member of the Moncton Fire Department. In 2000, he was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal. Patrick was a founding member of the St Patrick's Family Centre and very involved in the activities of Southeastern NB Branch of the Irish Canadian Cultural Association. He was also a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Politically, he was an active member of the Liberal party and was President of the Moncton West Liberal Constituency.
Patrick donated his body to Dalhousie Medical School; a Memorial service will be held at a later date that will be announced. Donations to parish food banks would be appreciated.
