Juanita 'Neats' Steele, RN, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, Oct. 12, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Sadie (MacDougall) Steele.
A graduate of St. Elizabeth Hospital Nursing School, Juanita worked for many years at Harbour View, Northside and Stratford General hospitals.
She is survived by her brother, Bryan, Dartmouth, and his family, Jocelyn (Basil) Graham and their son, Hayden, Michael (Corey) and their son, Logan; her three sisters, Sue Kelly, Stratford, Ont., and her family, Michelle (Jeff) Carr, Stratford, Rick, California, Sean (Lucy), Stratford, Shane, British Columbia; Debbie (Blaise) Walker, Dartmouth, and their children, Stephanie and Brian; and Claudia, Sydney Mines; and by many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family and friends.
Besides her obvious love of sports, she will always be remembered for her generosity, kindness and compassion to all who knew her. She will be especially missed by her sister, Claudia to whom she devoted most of her life.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 at Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Thomas John officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northside Mental Health Clinic, c/o the Cape Breton Mental Health Foundation.
