Klaus Jürgen Bachmann - 71, of North Alton, Kings County passed away on January 25, 2011 in the Maritime Heart Centre of the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born on August 16, 1939 in Berlin, Germany, he was the son of the late Max and Johanna (Marquardt) Bachmann. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 39 years, the former Jean Haynes; a daughter, Audrey (Les); son, Stephen (Lynda) and granddaughter, Lindsey; brother, Berand, Berlin; brother-in-law, Jim (Eileen) Haynes; several nieces and nephews and chosen sister, Anneliese (Wilfred) Baxter. He was predeceased by brothers, Gunter and Dieter; a sister, Edith. Klaus chose the life of a seaman at age 14, sailing with different companies in Europe until coming to Canada in 1966. He worked on the Great Lakes, the Fundy Gypsum Company and Imperial Oil (Marine Division), retiring in 1990. During his sailing career he sailed around the world three times. Klaus had a great love for the outdoors and camping. He and Jean joined Family Campers and RVers and the local chapter of the High Tide Drifters 16 years ago, making many treasured friends. On Klaus' last journey, we wish to thank Scott Hamilton and Tara Galley for their fast response and care with EHS and to Dr. Miller at Valley Regional Emergency. With praise and thanks to Dr. Jeremy Wood and Dr. Maral Ouzounian and all the surgical team at the QE II Halifax Infirmary. Thanks for the wonderful care Klaus received in the ICU you all will never be forgotten. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. Klaus had requested no services. Family burial at a later date.
