THORBURN – It is with a heavy heart and deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Irene MacGillivray, age 52, of New Row, Thorburn, on Monday, July 6, 2009, in the Aberdeen Hospital New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Kay (Tilley) MacGillivray.
She was a member of Saint Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Thorburn. A devoted mother and nanny and sincere friend to all who knew her, Irene enjoyed life to the fullest and enjoyed her many friends who made her house a home to all; she especially enjoyed her card and bingo nights with her aunt Claire, close friend Shann, as well as many other good friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Heather MacLean (Jason Wadden), Thorburn; granddaughter, Taylor MacLean; life-long companion and soul mate, Kevin Dawson; sisters: Joan (James) Hughes, New Glasgow; Margaret (Tony) English, B.C.; brother: Bill (Susan), Thorburn; nieces and nephews: Lori; Shane; Angie; Kathy and Brent.
She was predeceased by an infant brother, Daniel Frederick.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral mass 11 a.m. Thursday in Saint Ann’s Roman Catholic Church Thorburn, with Father Colin MacKinnon officiating. Burial will be in Saint Ann’s Cemetery.
