It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Anna Maria Jackson on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neils Harbour.
Anna was born in Holland on July 15, 1927, and immigrated to Canada in 1952.
She worked at both the Sydney City Hospital and St. Rita Hospital in Sydney.
Anna is survived by her son, Leo (Cathy) Vanderwyst, Ingonish; daughters-in-law, Pat Vanderwyst, Sydney, and Susan Reid, British Columbia; her sister, Nellie, Holland; as well as many nieces and nephews. Oma was dearly loved by her six grandchildren, Suzanne, Rick, Crystal, Barbie, Nicky and Andrew; five great-grandchildren; stepdaughters, Linda (A.G.) Sams, Mary Sue (Gladstone) MacKinnon and five step-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Anthony Vanderwyst, her second husband, Alfred Jackson and her sons, Peter Vanderwyst and Frank Vanderwyst.
A celebration of Anna's life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at 1 p.m. in the United Church in Ingonish, with Rev. Margie Wood officiating.
Memorial donations in Anna's memory may be made to the palliative care unit, Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neils Harbour.
