It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Muriel Rose MacLean on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Muriel was born in Sydney, Aug. 20, 1934, the daughter of Rose and Alex MacLean.
Surviving are her sister, Eileen Ramsay; brothers, James 'Junior' (Kay), Gordon and Wilfred (Frances) and their families, and dear friend, neighbour and caregiver, Ruth MacFadyen; as well as many close friends who will feel her loss deeply. Her nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, to whom she was always 'Moo Moo' will remember her with much love. She remained close to and kept in touch with several relatives in England.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Phyllis Ferguson and a sister, Audrey in infancy.
Muriel worked for many years with Revenue Canada. Many of her co-workers remain close friends to this day. A lifetime member of First United Church, Sydney, Muriel was a tireless worker in all aspects of the life of the church. Her more recent endeavour was making quilts for the homeless of the community. She will be remembered for her contribution to the hospital lab department of hundreds of finger puppets, which she knit with so much love.
A quiet and gentle person, compassionate and caring, Muriel's life was all about giving, which she did in abundance and with a glad heart. She was a dear and precious friend who will be greatly missed.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 8 at First United Church at 2 p.m.
Family flowers only. Donations in her memory can be made to First United Church or Cape Breton Metro VON.
