It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and sister Jean Ada 'Sakey' Robertson, 78, a resident of Big Bras d'Or, on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born Dec. 13, 1932, in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Vera (Gratto) Davidson.
She moved to Cape Breton in 1950 to marry the love of her life Elmer Robertson. She spent her life taking care of her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a beautiful lady with a heart of gold, who enjoyed the company of many wonderful friends and neighbours. She enjoyed going to bingo games and attending yard sales.
She is survived by her daughters, Daria Beddow (Sandy Campbell), Englishtown, Sharon Robertson, North Sydney, Carlee MacAskill (Wilson Harper), Sydney, and Lisa (Garry) MacNeil, Millville; also by her nine grandchildren, Corrie, Shawna and Justin Beddow, Joel Robertson, Jacob, Noah and Emily MacAskill, Emma Harper, Benjamin and Gabriel MacNeil; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; her sisters, Audrey George, Joanne (Edgar) MacDonald, Shirley Ross, Nancy MacLellan (Hector Priest); a brother, Larry Davidson; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Elmer Robertson in 2009, brothers, Donald, Deedee, Dennis and Gargett Davidson, sisters, Dorothy Gillis, Joyce Smith and one brother Allan in infancy.
Visitation for Jean 'Sakey' will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John United Church, Big Bras d'Or, with Rev Louis Ihasz officiating. Burial to take place at Black Rock Cemetery, at a later date.
