SHANNON: Donald Oscar, age 85 yrs. of Hazlet, SK passed away on Febuary 5, 2011 at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, in Medicine Hat Alberta. A memorial service will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Swift Current, SK at a later date. He is survived by his loving; Son Wayne (Heather) Shannon, Travis (Jessica Gilchrest); Daughters: Marilyn (Don)Chisholm, Bonnie Piecharka, Brad (Candance) Cooper, Beau, Donnie (Kim) Kardash, Hayden, Taylor, Lynn (Lawerence) Quintin, Shannon (Kevin) Sakawich, Angela (Leon) Laventure, Alexander, Shawn (Jennifer MacQuarrie) Donna Gay (Dale) Nelson, Tara-Lynn (Kevin Cady), Raylene (Peter Tomkinson), Amber (Christian Cyr), Kane, Kingston, Cindy (Ian)Harris, Tyler (Lisa), Hayley, Rylee, Trent (Candice), Avery, Trinity, Jody Lee (Jody) Smith, Jerrid, Jayden, Jayce. And siblings, Elieen Yake, Ervin (Louise) Shannon, Norma Thoreson. and brother in law Allan Thoreson, special nephew Tom Shannon, Ralph (Mary) English, sister in laws Ginny Mellor, Joyce Parson, Elaine (Arthur Lidstone) and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his: loving wife of 61 years Mary Francis Shannon (January 3, 2011) and parents Bernice & Oscar Shannon, and his father in law and mother in law Cabel & Annie English. Sister, Iona Thoreson, brother in laws: Stan Yake, Ron Thoreson, James (Ida English), C.B. (Betty English); Tom Mellor & Mike Parson nephews Brian Thoreson, Robert Shannon,and Lynnwood English. Don was born September 29, 1925 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. He lived in the Hazlet district most of his life. He attended school in Unionville. He was united in marriage to Mary Francis English on December 10, 1949 in Edson, Alberta. He worked in the coal mine in Mercoal AB, upon returning to Hazlet where he settled on his heritage farm, and then resided in Cabri, Sk. for the past 4 1/2 yrs. He had a love for farming, gardening, driving around and looking at the crops in the area and driving out to the Hazlet Regional Park. And taking care of his many chickens, ducks, geese and other farm animals. He also enjoyed, reading newspapers, and the Hazlet and area(s) history books. He enjoyed cooking, playing crib, bridge, and whist. In his younger days he enjoyed playing pool. He loved getting visits from his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and friends. He was a very special man who was loved by many. He was a caring & loving devoted husband, father and grandfather, who will be deeply missed and forever remembered in our hearts. He is now resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus. Our family would like to thank the Medicine Hat nurses that gave such good care to our dad.
