It is with heartfelt sadness the family of Emmanuel Tobin Sr. announce his passing Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines, Jan. 2, 1925, he was the son of the late Pius and Anastasia (Glogowski) Tobin.
He was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines. He was employed at the Princess Colliery for 33 yeas as a coal miner. After he retired he took to sharpening skates on MacAulay's Lane for a number of years.
He could put his hand to anything and although he was a man of few words, he loved to talk sports with the boys in the barn. Manny was also enlisted to the Canadian Army in 1943, but the war ended before he got sent overseas.
He leaves behind his wife, Edith (Ford) of 66 years; his sons, Buddy (Carol), Freddy (Debbie), Danny (Linda), Dennis (Geralyn); daughters, Marjorie Wassilaskus, Susan (Cully) Cullen; 12 grandchildren, Angela, Jennifer, Jill, Melissa, Danielle, Shane, April, Jeff, Ashley, Ryan, Justin and Jessica; six great-grandchildren, Charleigh, Avery, Jack, Julia, Kate and Grace; brothers, Richard (Bea), Cecil (Nora) and Gerald (Jackie).
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Linda, grandson, Aaron, son-in-law, Joseph Wassilaskus, and brothers, Stanley, Joseph and Freddy.
Visitation for Emmanuel Tobin will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, Wednesday, Feb. 9 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of his life will take place Thursday, Feb. 10 at 11 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Thomas John officiating. A reception to follow in the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
