It is with heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, and friend, David Walter Miller, on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at his residence. At the time of his death, Dave was surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Halifax, June 27, 1948, David was the son of the late Charles John and Phyllis Madeline (Jessop) Miller and was a member of Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay.
Dave worked at numerous trades over the course of his life, from carpentry, electrical, fishing and was employed with the Department of Highways in Halifax. He was a hard worker who loved shovelling snow and working on projects around his home and yard. But mostly, David will be remembered as a kind and loving family man, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. Dave was a constant companion to his grandchildren and to the neighbourhood children as well.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Mary Rose (McNeil) Miller, son, Paddy (Margaret), Glace Bay; daughters, Holly (Blake), British Columbia, Crystal (Jason), Glace Bay; also surviving are eight grandchildren, Samantha, Ellen, Raven, Shyanne, Christopher, David, Joshua and special granddaughter Kimberly, who he raised as his own daughter; sisters, Joan (Lonnie) Goodwin, Yarmouth, Sandra (Barry) Furlotte and Gail Oldham, both of Halifax; brothers, Paul (Claire) and Jack (Jean), both of Halifax; brothers-in-law, sisters in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and a large circle of family friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass celebrating Dave's life will be 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. All are invited to join the family for a reception in the church hall immediately following the mass. Cremation to follow with interment at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy for David, memorial donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
At this time the family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Gordon Spencer.
Online condolences to the family can be expressed at www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
You're only a thought away.
Missed by all. One Love.
