Passed away peacefully January 28, 2011, at Garden City Manor, at the age of 92. Miss Murphy was born to John B. and Gertrude Lawton Murphy on July 26, 1919 and grew up on Bell Island, Newfoundland. Cherished aunt of Maureen (Leo) White, Myles (Sandra) Murphy, all of St. John’s Newfoundland, Debra (Greg) McDonald of Auburn, Alabama, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews. Predeceased by her parents and brothers Brian D. Murphy and Myles A. Murphy, and sister Kathleen Murphy Johnson. Miss Murphy was a member of the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria. She was a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels for 15 years. Miss Murphy was a secretary and excellent dicta-typist for an insurance company in Corner Brook, NL until her retirement. In 1977 she came to St. Catharines to care for her elderly aunt and uncle, Alfred and Alma Lawton. Cremation has taken place. A Service of Remembrance will take place at HULSE AND ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 75 Church St. (905-684-6346) on February 12th, 2011 at 1:00 p.m .with an interment to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
