It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Olga Bushell announces her peaceful passing Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital. A longtime resident of Glace Bay, she spent the last several years under the care of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.
Olga was the eldest daughter of the late Jeanette Marie (Gauthier) and Michael J. Andrea of Bras d’Or.
Olga devoted her life to her husband Charlie and to her family. She experienced no greater joy than packing up the kids for long drives and picnics around Cape Breton Island. An avid gardener, she loved putting in the dahlias and harvesting from her vegetable garden. Olga was a diehard Montreal Canadiens fan who enjoyed watching her brothers play hockey and, in her youth, being part of the team.
Olga is survived by her eight children, Patricia MacLean, Toronto, Joan MacKeigan, Kilwort, Ont., Carolyn Graves, Red Deer, Alta., Brenda Lawrence (Ted), Glace Bay, Mary Melnick (James), Mira, Joe (Anne Marie), Sydney River, Peter (Kaye), Coxheath, and Anne, Glace Bay. She will be great missed by her grandchildren, Charles, Sharon, Bernie, Nancy, Patricia, Lisa, Vivian, Olga, Dan, Dave, Joe, Don, Jason, Derek, Brian and Emily; as well as many great-grandchildren. Olga is survived by her 12 brothers and sisters, John (late Marjorie), Rita, Joe (Nellie), Dave (Barb), Elias (Agnes), Francis, Leonard, Lauretta (Herm Smith), Bernie, Tony (Barb), Fr. Jake and Eugene (Ann).
Olga was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Charles, sons, Charles and David, daughter, Juliette; grandson, Charles MacLean; sister, Theresa (Denny Hounslow) and brother, Gabriel (Martina).
Visitation for Olga Bushell will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 13 in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 14 at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Jake Andrea officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church foyer. All are welcome.
Memorial donations in Olga’s memory may be made to the Glace Bay Hospital, Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation or to the charity of choice.
