PORT HAWKESBURY Pieternella Cornelia ‘Elly’ Boers, 77, Port Hawkesbury, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009 in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.
Elly was born in Rotterdam, Holland, she was a daughter of the late Jacobus and Pieternella (Buiteweg) Van der Kaay.
She was a retired clerk from Sears and was a member of St. Mark’s United Church, Port Hawkesbury. Elly was very active in swimming, bowling and walking. She enjoyed travelling and was very devoted to her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Carel; sons, Fred (Lorraine), Mulgrave and Ron (Cathy), Stellarton; grandchildren: Carel (Michelle), Shawn (Lori), Adam, Carli.
Elly was predeceased by son, Michael; her sister, Dien Kouwen; and brother, Jon.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Mark's United Church, Port Hawkesbury, with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. Burial at a later date in Southbrook Cemetery, Port Hawkesbury.
