Geraldine Jackson, 92, of Halifax, passed away on Feb. 10, 2011, in Melville Lodge in Halifax, with her family by her side.
Born in Baddeck, in the Telegraph Hotel, she was the former Geraldine Dunlop, daughter of the late Gerald and Bessie (MacAskill) Dunlop. Geraldine had the good fortune to live in several parts of Nova Scotia and was active in community affairs wherever she resided. She had been a Sunday school superintendent of First United Church in Malone Bay, as well as being a ranger captain. In Truro, she was a member of the PC Women’s group and a member of the board of directors for Nova Scotia Youth Training School. When returning to Baddeck, she became president of the Provincial Women’s PC Association, president of the Baddeck Valley Community Club, Sunday school superintendent for Greenwood United Church, a member of the Victoria County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Alexander Graham Bell Ladies Club and assistant probation officer for Nova Scotia Correctional Services and regional registrar of births and deaths and marriages.
She is survived by her children, Graham Jackson (Karen), Judy (Phil Henderson), Joanne (Bonnie Webber), Celeste (Ray MacLellan) and Lloyd Jackson (Glynnis); 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Austin Jackson; brother, Charles David ‘Buddy’; sister, Shirley Kerr and great-grandchild, Riley Ronalds.
Memorial service will take place Monday, Feb. 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. in Greenwood United Church, Baddeck, Rev. Louis Ihasz officiating. Interment will be in the spring.
