Hinkley David Miles, 90, Cheticamp, formerly of Pleasant Bay, died Feb. 11, 2011, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Born in Pleasant Bay, he was the son of the late Jack Sam and Flora (Fraser) Hinkley.
He was a veteran of the Second World War as well as being a life-long fisherman and businessman. He was a charter member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 32, Cheticamp, and was its president for two terms.
He is survived by his daughter, Shirley (Andy), Cheticamp; two sons, Willard, Halifax, and Gregory (Marjorie), Cheticamp; six grandchildren, Joey (Aline), Cindy (Fidele), Jeannie (Dwayne), Shelley (Claudie), David (Tanya) and Dale; nine great-grandchildren, Brittany (Brad), Marco, Michel, Logan, Molly, Isaac, Lane, Halle, Ryder and great-great-grandchild, Braelyn Shae.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jennie (Timmons), brothers, Arthur, Harry, Willard, sister, Ethel, infant daughter, Edwina and infant great-granddaughter, Hope.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Monday) at Cheticamp Funeral Home. His remains will be transferred to Pleasant Bay Professional Centre for visitation from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew’s United Church, Pleasant Bay, with Rev. Margie Wood officiating. Interment in Pleasant Bay Cemetery.
