Davis, Raymond Alder – 92, Debert, passed away on February 10, 2011 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born on February 2, 1919 in Leicester, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late John Jefferson Davis and Alice Mae (Coates) Davis. Raymond started his working life in the logging industry in northern and eastern Nova Scotia. In 1952 he and his family moved to a farm in East Mines, where he continued to farm until 1973. During this time he also worked with the Department of Highways and Raynor Construction. He retired from D.O.H. in 1984. He was a founding member of the Debert Volunteer Fire Brigade and enjoyed traveling, playing cards, bowling and time spent with his family. Raymond was predeceased by his first wife, Emma, infant son James and brother Albert of Amherst. He is survived by his wife, Jean (Winters); daughter Elizabeth (Bruce) Macdonald, Conquerall Mills; sons William and Robert (Gwen), East Mines; step-children Stanley (Ruth) Thompson, Fenwick and Helen (Gerald Bishop) Young, New Minas. A real family man, he dearly loved his 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 13th at the Debert Baptist Church from 1 to 3pm, with Memorial Service to follow also in Debert Baptist Church. A reception will follow at the Debert Fire Brigade Fire Hall, 34 Carter Road, Debert. Interment at the Middle Road Cemetery in Debert at a later date. Family flowers only.
