Elisabeth Kieling
Elisabeth Kieling passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Swift Current Care Centre, at the age of 97 years. Elisabeth was born in Herbert, Sk. On May 8, 1913. When she was the tender age of 5 years, her mother passed away. At Herbert, she attended the Bethania and Rockside schools. During her fourth grade in school, she and her family moved to Mexico. While there, her father passed away when she was 12 years old. Together with her siblings she came back to Canada in 1927. She was invited to live with her sister and brother-in-law in Blumenhof where she attended 8 more months of school before going to work as a maid in her teens for various families. She married Abram Kieling on Oct. 16, 1932, in Blumenhof, where they resided. Here they raised their 3 children, her special interests were, gardening, sewing, crocheting, cooking and baking, In fact she continued with making her own bread into her nineties. Elisabeth was very active in the Blumenhof church. She was a member of the Ladies Mission Circle and taught Sunday school for many years. Elisabeth had a great love for music and had always had a desire to play the piano. She had a few formal lessons but was
mostly self-taught. This love of music remained with her for her entire life. She began to play for the congregation and church choir, which gave her incentive to improve. She also hosted and billeted many visiting missionaries. Elisabeth and Abram moved to a farm near Blumenhof in 1954, where they continued to farm. In 1966, they moved to Swift Current. Here they attended and became members of Zion Mennonite church. Elisabeth was involved with the Ladies Aide making quilts, soap, etc. She took pride in her flowers and gardening, especially her many tomato plants. She also worked as an assistant cook at the Swift Current Bible School and as a restaurant
dishwasher. After being widowed she found a special friendship with John Kruppke. They enjoyed each other's company for many years until his passing. For eight years she lived with her son Fred, both in Swift Current and on the farm. On Nov. 8, 2010 she moved into
the Swift Current Care Centre. Elisabeth was a very compassionate person and treasured her time with family and friends. Her memory will be cherished and she will be missed by all. Elisabeth is survived by her son Fred; grandchildren Barry (Diane) Hildebrandt, Gaylia (Gerald) Wiens; great grandchildren, Lisa (Darryk) Noble and their children Abbie and Rachel; Gerod (Stephanie) Wiens, Scott Wiens, Travis (Nicole) Hildebrandt and Tracy Hildebrandt; son-in-law, John (Mary) Hildebrandt; sister Anne (Jake) Thiessen of Manitoba; sister-in-law, Alma Oord of Germany and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents John and Katherine Reddekop; husband Abram (1977); daughter Evelyn (1986), son Charles (2002); brothers and sisters; Katherine, John, Mary (Merle), Helen and Dave and many in-laws. The Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 4, 2011 from Zion Mennonite Church with Pastor Herman J. Wiebe officiating. The organist was Grace Funk. The eulogy was presented by Gerod Wiens and Life Tribute was presented by Gaylia Wiens. The pallbearers were Barry Hildebrandt, Gerald Wiens, Gerod Wiens, Scott Wiens, Travis Hildebrandt, and Darryk Noble. The interment service took place in Mount Pleasant Burial Park. In her memory, memorial donations may be made to the C.N.I.B. Warren's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
