Stanley Roy Higgins age 59, of Toronto and formerly of Amherst passed away Sunday, July 5, 2009 at Toronto General Hospital.
Born in Pugwash, he was a son of the Alexander and Maie (Rushton) Higgins.
He worked at Brown's Lumber Mill in Southampton, N.S., the pulp field in Pugwash and on the lumber boats. Stanley moved to Toronto in 1999.
He is survived by his wife Ida, sisters Mildred Higgins, Liz (Rupert) Strong both of Amherst and Donna Higgins of Parrsboro and one brother Robert (Annie) Higgins of Amherst. He is also survived by one half brother Duncan (Judy) Carter of Amherst Head and one half sister Dora (Eugene) Chapman of Elmsdale, N.S. and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Stanley was predeceased by three sisters Hilda Canning, Gertie Higgins and Joyce St. Croix and two half brothers Borden and Trueman Carter and two half sisters Leona Richards and Ina Sharpe.
His remains are resting at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst with visiting on Saturday, July 11, 2009 from 1p.m. until the time of the service at 3 p.m. all in Campbell's Chapel.
Mr. Cecil Morton, Mr. Claude McAloney and Mr. Ken Taylor will officiate.
Interment will take place in the Amherst Cemetery.
Donations in Stanley's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
