John Edward (Gouthro) Walker, 69, of Reserve Mines, Eddie as he was known to friends and family, passed away on Feb. 15, 2011, after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son of the late Edward Michael Walker and Mary Elizabeth ‘Dolly’ (Gouthro).
He is survived by his children, Wayde, Dartmouth, Scott (Gillian), Dartmouth, and Jodi (David) MacDougall, Calgary; grandchildren, Samantha, Alex, Katherine, Brandon, Jacob and Will; sisters, Arlene Wagner, Toronto, Anita (Ian) Mac kenzie, Port Hawkesbury; brothers, Willie (Betty) Dartmouth, Vince (Charlene), Coxheath; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a strong union member and was president and vice-president of UMWA Mechanics Local 4522 for several years. He was a lifelong member and past president of the Reserve Mines Credit Union, past president of the Shamrock Club in Dominion and former boy scout leader.
He was a quiet leader who enjoyed walking, reading and a good debate.
He was predeceased by his parents and niece, Rene Walker.
A memorial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the palliative care units in Sydney and Halifax.
