Winnie (Nanny) Currie passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at the age of 89 years at the Beach Grove Nursing Home in Charlottetown, P.E.I. A devoted and caring mother, Winnie raised her family in Dartmouth, N.S. and then pursued a career in the retail industry. Her grandchildren, and later on, great-grandchildren, were the light of her remarkable life. She is predeceased by her husband Roy, a daughter Florence, and brother Douglas O’Neill of Enfield, N.S. She will be sadly missed by her son Leonard (Glenda) Currie, Charlottetown, P.E.I.; and daughter Diane (Walter) Piccott, Rockland, Ont.; as well as six sisters, Ethel Munroe, Enfield, N.S.; Patricia Gilby, Enfield, N.S; Avis Logan, Moncton, N.B; Peggy Langille, Bedford, N.S; Joan Shewaga, London, Ont.; Dean Currie, Enfield, N.S.; and two brothers, James O’Neill, Enfield, N.S.; and Jerome O’Neill, Moncton, N.B. Nanny will never be forgotten by her grandchildren Rhonda (Steven) Ferguson, Stephen (Dawn), Jason (Sara), Lenny, Christopher; and four great-grandchildren, Walter Jr., Sophia and Stephen Jr. Piccott, and Gabriel Currie. Resting at the Cutcliffe Funeral Home for visitation on Sunday, July 12 from 2-4 p.m. only. Then transferred to Mattatall’s Funeral Home, Dartmouth, N.S., for visitation on Monday, July 13, from 12-2 p.m. Funeral mass to be celebrated at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Dartmouth, N.S., on Monday at 2:30 p.m. Interment to follow in the family plot in Sandy Hill Cemetery, Hardwood Lands, N.S. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Autism Society of P.E.I. or N.S. Online condolences may be made at www.islandowned.ca.
