It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Ida Maude Parsons, on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Ramea, N.L., she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Young) Hatcher.
Ida was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as reading and knitting.
She is survived by her five daughters, Jean Menchenton (Roy), Sandy Point, N.L., Marlene Smith-Hanlon (Frank), St. John’s, N.L., Joyce Parsons, Westmount, N.S., Anne Curry (Russell), Glace Bay, Beverly Hawkins (John), Big Bras d’Or; her three sons, Rex Parsons (Linda), Enfield, N.S., David Parsons (Jean), Port au Port, N.L., James Parsons, Clarenville, N.L..; her sister, Lena, Stephenville, N.L.; also by 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore, daughter, Janis Gill, two infant sons, brothers, Freeman, Jim and Walter and sister, Mahala.
Visitation for Ida will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Wednesday, from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or any charity.
