Walter Brander

The death of Walter Brander, age 81, of Shinimicas, occurred suddenly at the All Saint's Hospital, Springhill on Saturday, February 19, 2011.
Born in Northport, he was a son of the late Thomas and Hazel (Burns) Brander.
A career navy person, Walter served with RCN from 1954 to 1974, retiring as Chief Petty Officer. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Following retirement from the navy he returned to his career as a Lobster fisherman. He was a member of the Amherst Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. He enjoyed all sports and playing cards.
Walter will be sadly missed by 4 daughters, Valerie (Murray) Brooks, Jane (Raymond Trueman), Beth (David Estabrooks) and Cindy; 4 sons, Thomas (Joan), Jeffrey, Andrew (Kim) and Dale; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; a sister Bina Brownell. He was predeceased by his wife the former Jewel Black in 1987 and by 6 brothers and sisters, Ada, Anna, Joe, Babe, Bob and Larry.
Walter's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home Amherst, (667-8777) from where the funeral service will be held Wednesday February 23, 2011 at 11 am, Rev. Philip Reid officiating. Walter's family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9 am until the time of the funeral at 11. Reception to follow. Burial in the Hillside Cemetery, Northport in the spring. www.furlongjones.ca
