NEW GLASGOW – Joan Aileen Fraser, of the Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away Friday, February 18, 2011 in the Villa.
Born December 4, 1926 in Westville, she was a daughter of the late Mert and Jeanetta (MacDonald) MacKenzie.
She was a Registered Nurse having graduated from the Aberdeen School of Nursing in 1947. She nursed at the Old Aberdeen Hospital. She was a member of Trinity United Church, Aberdeen Hospital Auxiliary (Gift Shop), and was an avid curler and golfer.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Gwen MacKenzie, Oakville; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon D. Fraser; sisters, Winnifred Forbes, Margaret MacKenzie; and a brother, Arthur.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday in Trinity United Church with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook officiating. Burial will be in Lorne Street Cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to recognize and thank Joan’s many friends who remained very close to her, especially the last couple of years. The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Valley View Villa.
