At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB on February 20, 2011, Mr. James Elsworth Gaudet, husband of Mrs. Georgina (Grace) Gaudet of Blacks Harbour, NB. Born at Blacks Harbour, NB on February 4, 1922, he was a son of the late Jesse and Annie (Wilcox) Gaudet. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife Georgina, he is survived by one son, Gene (Jacqueline) Gaudet of St. George, NB, two daughters; Sandra (Zoltan) Szabo of Ajax, ON and Margo (Graham) Wiltshire of Blacks Harbour, NB, three grandchildren; Angela (Eddy) Martin of St. Stephen, NB, Jim Wiltshire (Liz Fillmore) of Moncton, NB and Michael Szabo of Oshawa, ON, two great grandchildren; Evan and Olivia Martin, two brothers: Maynard (Zella) Gaudet of St. George, NB and Burton (Lola) Gaudet of Windsor, ON, three sisters; Myrtle Lee of St. Andrews, NB, Dorothy Carr of Sussex, NB and Mary (Austin) Richardson of Blacks Harbour, NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was predeceased by three brothers; Ralph, Albert and Ernest and by two sisters; Marjorie Grant and Belva Carroll. Prior to his retirement, Jim worked as a mechanist by trade working with Connors Bros in Blacks Harbour, NB for over 40 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in Pocologan. Jim also enjoyed berry picking, playing cards and was a lover of sports. He was a former member of the Blacks Harbour Fire Department and the Brunswick Curling Club, Blacks Harbour, NB. He was lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 39, Blacks Harbour, NB and was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Sixth Hussars – 5th Armored Division, serving in Europe from 1941-1945, being involved in many missions including the Liberation of Holland.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB from where the service will be held from The Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 2 pm with Father Paul Doucet officiating. The interment will take place at the Stella Maris Catholic Cemetery, Blacks Harbour, NB in the spring. Visiting at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 7 pm.
