Dorothy Alexandra Close, age 78 of Foundry Street, Glace Bay, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay and raised in the Tower Road area, Sandy was the daughter of the late Alexander and Dorothea (Stockley) Campbell.
She had many hobbies, some of which included, sewing, reading, crafts, doing jigsaw puzzles and going on the computer. But mostly, Sandy will be remembered as a lady who had a great sense of humour, a sharp wit and endless love for her family.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Clarence Close; daughters, Sandra (Tom) Tugwood, Debbie (Kevin) Gallant, Karen; two sons, James (Michelle) and Bob (Darlene), all in Glace Bay. Sandy is survived by siblings, Eric, Gladys, Mae, Judy; grandchildren, Keith, David, Gordie, Robert, Chris, Jeffery, Tyler, Brandon, Amanda, great-grandchildren, Ryan, April, Erin, Christopher, Alyssa and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Sandy was predeceased by siblings, Jackie, Anne, Minnie and Nema.
There will be no visitation or church service. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in Glace Bay. Interment will take place at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery in the Close family plot.
As an expression of sympathy for Dorothy ‘Sandy’, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the I.W.K. Hospital, Halifax.
