Margaret Theresa MacNeil passed away from this world into the loving arms of God on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011.
Margie was born and raised in Benacadie West. She was the daughter of the late Angus and Bessie MacNeil and sister of Mary (Power) and the late Rhodena (Dena) MacNeil.
Margie married Tony on Oct. 20, 1956, and together they had five sons. They had a wonderful life together and enjoyed each other, their children, family and friends until Tony’s death in 1976. Margie devoted her life to raising her children. She loved God and her faith carried her as she worked diligently, in her quiet but firm way, to give her boys all that she could. As her boys’ married and grandchildren started to arrive, she continued to commit herself to her family by supporting them as they began to raise their children. She was a very special Nannie; one who would go to great lengths to ensure that everyone had what they enjoyed. Sometimes this meant three types of breakfast, all served in bed, sprinkle cookies and squares in the fridges at all times, and never missing a school concert, attending sporting events and sitting through music, speech and dance festivals.
After college, Margie settled on a career with the Bank of Nova Scotia in 1955. She worked there until her retirement in 1996. Margie participated fully in her Christian community. She was a member of the Cursillo family. As a member of St. Theresa parish, Margie served for many years as a Eucharistic minister and also served on parish council. She joined the CWL in 1980 where she served on the executive. She remained active in the CWL until her death. Countless pans of squares and dozens of pork pies left Lorne Street destined for events at the church. Margie also participated in many events at the KOC with Tony and continued her work there for many years after his death. As a young wife and mother, Margie joined a card club. The club came to be a focus in Margie’s life and for 42 years she enjoyed their company. Over the years, nothing stopped these ladies from gathering together to share their lives over tea, lunch and a great game of scat. Margie’s family will tell you that club night at their house meant pizza for supper, the edges from pans of squares and fits of laughter so loud that even though you were relegated to your bedroom, it was impossible to sleep. The club crowd filled Margie’s life with companionship, love and laughter.
Margie is survived by Ken (Elaine), Sydney, Norm (Cindy), Hamilton, Ont., Ron (Janet), Trout Brook, John (Wynn), Sydney, Darren (Sandra), Sydney; grandchildren, Ryan, Lauren, Kristen, Nathan, Toni (Pete), Kate-Lyn, Sarah, Kate, Grant, Jourdan, Ben, Daniel, David and Nicole. Margie is also survived by her sister, Mary (Gordie) Power, Sydney; and very special friends, Arlene MacIsaac, Mary Yhard and Mary Youden.
Visitation for Margie will be held at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Theresa Church with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating.

Margie died as she lived. Without any fuss, focused on God, her family and friends, making things as easy as she could for all those she loved.
