
George Albert Ellsworth
Peacefully, with his daughter at his side, at the Kings County Memorial Hospital on Saturday, February 19, 2011, George Albert Ellsworth of Lower Montague, one week prior to his 93rd birthday. Born in Skinner's Pond, February 26, 1918. Veteran of the Second World War.
Beloved Husband of Christine Ellsworth (nee MacKenzie) and cherished father of Dave (Martha) Ellsworth, Montague; Eric (Audrey Auld), Stanhope; and Corinne, Spaniard's Bay, Newfoundland. Very proud grandfather of four loving grandchildren, Anne (Garth) Dixon, Lower Montague; Dennis (Heather Doyle), Charlottetown; Gavin (Marni Woolford), Calgary, Alberta; Airlie (Trevor Postma), Victoria, B.C.; and great-granddaughter, Rebecca Dixon, Charlottetown.
Albert is also survived by two sisters, Reta Connick, Amherst, N.S., and Catherine Winnifred Gould, Charlottetown; and two sisters-in-law, Edna Ellsworth, Charlottetown, and Shirley Ellsworth, Skinner's Pond.
Predeceased by a dear son, Wayne, in 1970 and his parents, John and Catherine Ellsworth; brothers, Joseph, Preston (Bernice), Patrick (Lillian), Wilbert (Rita) and Pius; and sisters, Mary Hyacinth Settle (Marcus), Levina Luttrell (James), Mary Coletta Kennedy (Russell) and Florence Belliveau (Gerald); and brothers-in-law, Emmett Connick and Norman Gould.
Albert served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders from 1942-45, participated in the Normandy Invasion on D-Day, was wounded in Boulogne, France, on September 17, 1944, recuperated in hospital in England before returning to Canada in 1945.
Resting at the Ferguson's Montague Funeral Home for visitation on Wednesday, February 23, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass at St. Mary's Church, Wood Islands Hill, Thursday at 2 p.m. Interment in the Lower Montague Cemetery.
No flowers due to allergies.
As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Lower Montague Cemetery or the Royal Canadian Legion #8 Renovation Fund would be appreciated.
The Royal Canadian Legion, Montague Branch #8, will hold a service of remembrance at the funeral home Wednesday evening at 6:45 p.m. All comrades invited to attend.
