HAYES, John Newman- 92, formerly of Coldbrook, Kings County, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Coldbrook, he was a son of the late Garfield and Zilphy (Fuller) Hayes. Together with his brothers they owned and operated Hayes Lumber business and developed Hayes Subdivision in Coldbrook. He was a veteran of the Second World War and was life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville. He is survived by one daughter, Joan Zilphy (Louis) Avery, Kentville; two brothers, Robert, Blomidon Court, Greenwich; Laurie, Coldbrook; sister-in-law Rose; two grandsons, Darren (Tina) Durling, Berwick; Darrell ( Kim) Durling, Cambridge. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary; a son, Donald; two sisters, Muriel and Edna; one brother, Roy. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. Visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the combined funeral service and Royal Canadian Legion service held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2011, all in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Burial will take place at a later date in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Kentville. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation.
