Lieu de naissance : Glace Bay, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Lieu de décès : Glace Bay, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 26 février 2011
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Alfie, on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Anthony and Frances (Kacor) Kubik.
Alfie is survived by his wife, Anna (O’Neill); children, Dino, Fredericton, Roberta, Sooke, B.C., and Andy (Danielle), Halifax. Also surviving are sisters, Wanda Coady, Sydney, and Roberta (Burke) Howorth, Sarnia, Ont.
He was predeceased by brother, Gus and sister, Anita (Hawley).
In his early years, Alfie’s natural athleticism led him to play many sports. He is best remembered for his rugby days which began at St. Anne’s High and the storied Senior Caledonia Club, and culminated when he was a star fullback at St. FX. His rugby skill was recognized by a well respected, long-time coach who described Alfie as, “one of the most talented players I have ever seen.” Later, as a high school teacher, driver’s education instructor and commanding officer of the Glace Bay Sea Cadet Squadron, Alfie shared his knowledge and sense of humor to educate and entertain his students.
A highlight for Alfie was the many summers he spent at the family’s Northside East Bay bungalow. Here his wit, music, and love of entertaining played a vital role in welcoming all, both on and off the water. ‘Dziadziu’ especially enjoyed visits from his 10 grandchildren, Erika, Andrew, Thomas, Joseph, Madeleine, Issac, Jacob, Abraham, Faith and Hope, as well as, his nieces, nephews and many friends.
There will be no visitation. A mass celebrating Alfie’s life will be held at Saint Anne’s Church on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 10 a.m. Prior to the mass, family will receive friends starting at 9:30 a.m. in the foyer of the church. A reception will follow the service.
Donations in Alfie’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Curry’s Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
