It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Daniel Joseph Penny, age 90, longtime resident of Blowers Street, on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Harbourview Hospital Veteran's Wing, Sydney Mines, where he resided the past year.
Born in North Sydney, Danny was the son of the late Frank and Josephine (Gaudeau) Penny. A veteran of the Second World War, he served with the Cape Breton Highlanders. He was employed with Canada Post as a letter carrier until his retirement.
He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #19, and the Father William Kiely Council 5109, Knights of Columbus in North Sydney. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
Danny is survived by his daughter, Pam Morrison, Dartmouth and his son, Leo Penny, Fletchers Lake, N.S.; his sister, Doris Burt, North Sydney and his three grandchildren, Debbie Wall, Ft. McMurray, Brandie Allison, Eastern Passage, Christopher Ferguson, Calgary; three great-grandchildren, Linkin Wall, Jesse Allison, Isabella Allison; also by a number of nieces and nephews
He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Shannon Ferguson; his son-in-law, Bob Morrison; his brothers, William, Leo and Ken Penny; his sister, Eileen Morrison and infant sister, Mildred.
Visitation for Danny will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, with Rev. Jake Andrea officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
