It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Nearing, 81, of Glace Bay. James passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late James and Mary Margaret Nearing.
In the past, James was employed with the Community Hospital in the kitchen for seven years. He was also an employee of Devco retiring after 37 years of service. James enjoyed his walks around Renwick Park. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.
James will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Annie (White); daughters, Anna (Herb) Nash, Barbara (Terry) Ashford, Susan; son, Jimmie (Cathy McInnis); sister, Joan (David) Fowler, all of Glace Bay; six cherished grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, James was predeceased by sisters, Viola, Bridget, brothers, Charlie, Lawrence, Joe and six in infancy.
In honoring James wishes, cremation will take place. The Nearing family will receive friends Monday, March 7 at noon until the time of funeral service at 2 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Padre Roy White will officiate. Interment will take place at a later date.
Donations in James memory may be made to Parkinson Society, Alzheimer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
