Kenneth Smith

Kenneth Frank Smith, 80, died Thursday, March 3rd in Burlington, Ontario where he resided for the past 10 years. Ken was born January 26, 1931, the son of Elmer George and Margaret Jeannette nee Treene in Moncton, New Brunswick. He is survived by his loving son Steven (Sandy) of Calgary, loving daughters Susan, of Korea, Bethany Peterson of Riverview, and Lorraine (Peter) of Vancouver, sister Mildred Palmer of Moncton, sister Lone of Toronto, and former wife Ruth Smith nee Krueger. He is predeceased by his parents, his brother Claude, and his sisters Marie Mitchell and Mae Smith. Ken was very proud of his five grandchildren: Mitchell Peterson of Riverview, Mackenzie and Samantha Smith of Calgary, and Charlotte and William Vann of Vancouver. After serving as a pilot in the air force on a short-term service commission, Ken became a businessman in Moncton, and was proprietor of K & J Realty for 20 years. Ken the "Chord-Smith" was very gifted musically and found music wherever he went. People were drawn to his passion for music and positive outlook on life. He always had tremendous stories to tell of his adventures that usually started with “Stop me if I’ve told you this before!”. Ken was very active in the music scene in Moncton and surrounding area where he played piano, piano accordion, bass harmonica, and tuba. Ken was well respected in the harmonica community nationwide and was director of the Codiac Chords for many years, Musical Director of Rail City Chorus, and was a member of the World’s Greatest Harmonica Band. Ken also played the tuba in the Moncton City Band. He recorded 10 CDs with his piano accordian, one tape with the World’s Greatest Harmonica Band and also published a successful piano instruction course. Ken was also an avid sportsman as a young man, and his accomplishments as a left-handed baseball pitcher in the 1950’s led to his induction into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame. He was especially fond of hunting and fishing.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening March 8TH, from 7 to 9 pm at Fair Haven Funeral Home. Help us celebrate the life of Ken Smith on Wednesday, March 9th at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home. Interment in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
