Donovan: James Jeremiah, 84, of Normandy Avenue, Truro, passed away peacefully Monday, July 13, 2009 at the Colchester Regional Hospital Truro. Born in Glace Bay he was a son of the late Herbert and Theresa (Aucoin) Donovan. He was a veteran of the 2nd World War serving with the R.C.A.F. and after the war re-entered the R.C.A.F. from 1951 to 1973. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 26 Truro. James loved his family very much and also loved his gardening, his dog, cars, model airplanes and painting pictures. He is survived by his wife the former Helen (Davidson) “McGeehan†Donovan; sons, James, Ronald (Maureen) both of Victoria BC; daughter, Roena (Lester) Marshall, St. John’s, NFLD; step-sons, Harold McGeehan (Barry MacDonald), Fall River; Mike McGeehan (Mary Matheson), Truro; brother, Aubrey (Shirley), Dartmouth; sisters, Colleen (Henry) Rideout, Glace Bay; Doris Marshall, Falmouth; Theresa (Bob) Cyr, Quebec; Paula Smith, Dartmouth; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife the former Rose Hoskins; brothers, Wilfred, Arthur, Herbert; sisters, Mary, Bertha, Agnes, Dolly, Bea. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. Legion tribute service to be held 1:45pm Friday, July 17, followed by memorial service at 2pm with Dr. Brian Ross officiating, all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. A reception will follow in the funeral home. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
