PAGE, Raymond Lewis, 83, Rockland, Shelburne County. It is with heavy hearts that we announce his passing on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Roseway Hospital with his family at his side. Born in Rockland on December 12, 1927, he was a son of the late Lewis and Dorothea (Harding) Page. At the age of 18 he moved to Halifax to work with his brother-in-law as a painter. He returned home at the age of 24 and started his own business as a butcher and peddled meat throughout Shelburne County. He also was a fisherman and later worked in the Maintenance Department at National Sea Products in Lockeport. Raymond loved to go on fishing trips with his wife Mary Jean, hunting at the lake in Little Harbour and family gatherings where many people loved to sample his homemade wine. He was an avid lover of kitchen parties. Raymond had a huge vegetable garden which he loved to share with his friends. He was a Past Patron of Crescent Chapter #70, Past District Grand Chaplin, Past Grand Steward of Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia and Past Master of Taylor Masonic Lodge #62. Raymond is survived and sadly missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Jean (Wamback), Rockland; daughters, Judith (Laurie) Page, Lake John; Janet (Wade) Lloyd, East Sable River; Wanda (Roger) Swansburg, Little Harbour; sons, Lewis (Angela), Rockland and Ralph, Mahone Bay; and sister Sylvia Dingle, Halifax; 11 grand-children, 5 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by son, Arthur and brother-in-law and special friend, Vernon Dingle and nephew, Wayne. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held on Friday, March 4 at in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel, Lockeport with Reverend Beverley Burlock officiating. Burial in Rockland Cemetery. Donations may be made to V.O.N, Lockeport First Responders or charity of choice. There will be a celebration of his life in the Little Harbour Hall following the burial.
