It is with deep sadness we the family announce the passing of Bette Clarke, formerly of Rotary Drive, on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck.
Born in Baddeck, she was the daughter of the late John ‘Jack’ and Elizabeth (MacDonald) Leaver.
She was a graduate of Sydney Academy, and she spent many years in accounting and office management positions with various local companies. She loved to cook and knit, and had fun learning to play the organ in retirement.
Bette was happiest when family and friends came together. She enjoyed spending time in Benacadie and was often found at the dances in the country.
Bette is survived by her son, Clarence Clarke, Sydney; her daughters, Charlotte (Buddy) MacDonald, Halifax, Shirley (Wayne) Campbell, Sydney, Kimberly Clarke (Wayne Phillips), Dartmouth, Tammy (Kyle) Parker, Oromocto, N.B.; her 10 grandchildren, Jason, Jeffrey, Blair, Terri, Jonathan, Matthew, Todd, Craig, Chelsea, Kaleigh; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bette was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, George, her sisters, Mary and Christine and her brother, George.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 9 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Thursday, March 10 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Louis Ihasz officiating. Cremation to follow. Interment at a later date in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
