LYONS BROOK – Irene Etta Smith, 63, Lyons Brook, formerly of Green Hill, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009 in the Camp Hill Veterans’ Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Everett James and Florence Catherine (Fraser) Osborne.
She was a member of Green Hill-Alma United Church, Alma, and the Green Hill Women’s Institute. She was instrumental in the formation of the first Alma Girl Guides. Prior to retirement, she had been a CCA employed with VON Pictou County.
Surviving are her son, Kevin Smith, Dartmouth; sister, Coreen (Fraser) MacPherson, New Glasgow; grandchildren: Kyle, Shelby, Andrew “Drew”; special niece, Shelley Chennell (Ken Cyr), Plymouth; aunts, uncles; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive visitors from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Friday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Heart and Stroke foundation of Nova Scotia.
