Caroline Theresa Hinchey (Johnson)
Date de décès : 8 mars 2011
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of “Carrie” Hinchey on Tuesday, March 8th, 2011 at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, St. John’s. Carrie was born in 1921 in Northern Bay to the late Stephen and Elizabeth (Doyle) Johnson. She was predeceased by her husband and best friend Patrick Hinchey in July 1990. She was also predeceased by her sisters: Ann Eagan and Genevieve McKenzie and brother Phil (Marguerite) Johnson, as well as two beloved sisters-in-law: Mary (Hinchey) Noonan of Gander and Agatha Hinchey of St. John’s. Carrie is survived by her sisters: Mary Margaret (Wally) Burns, Win (Bob) Devane and brother Peter (Judy) Johnson. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law: Gerry Eagan, Jim McKenzie and Morgan Hinchey (Margaret) in Gander and sisters-in-law: Helen Hinchey and Angela Philpott (Myles) in St. John’s. Carrie was a much loved Aunt to many nieces and nephews whose lives she followed with great interest. Carrie was first and foremost a teacher, who guided scores of Grade Three students into confident readers and writers. She was also the family historian, documenting the lives and accomplishments of her extended family and friends in detailed scrap-books. She loved to travel and enjoyed “tours” with her nieces to the States and visits with relatives in Toronto. She had the good fortune to grow up with good friends, Mary, Helen, Agatha and Angela who became her sisters-in-law and who extended kinship and kindness to Carrie all her life. Over the last few years Carrie was blessed to be watched over by her “guardian angels”, Madeline Norris, Mary Cahill, Anne Woodford and Kay Sudon, and her trusted advisor and brother-in-law Myles Philpott. The family would like to thank the staff of the 2nd floor of St. Patrick’s Mercy Home and her caregiver Karen Benoit. Carrie is resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Friday, March 11th, from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Saturday, March 12th at 9:30 a.m. from St. Pius X Church. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
“Until we meet again, may God
hold you in the palm of his hand”
