GARY WILLIAM MACKENZIE

MacKenzie, Gary William, 50, of Great Village, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at home. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Enid (Nichol) MacKenzie of Truro and the late Clyde MacxKenzie. Gary grew up in Truro and graduated from the Vocational School and worked as an electrician until an accident confined him to a wheelchair. He was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 26 Truro and in his earlier years attended the Brunswick Street United Church. Gary enjoyed reading, movies and watching NASCAR races. He also enjoyed spending time at the Lighthouse in Bass River during the summers. Surviving besides his mother are brothers, Kevin, Alan (Patsy) and their son William all of Truro; a number of cousins. Visitation will be held 7-9pm Saturday, March 12, and funeral service 2:30pm Sunday, March 13, all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, with Rev. David Lutes officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in the Robie Street Cemetery, Truro. Family flowers only. Donations in Gary’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of NS, the Easter Seal Wheelchair Campaign or to a charity of choice.
