It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rosie Grace Kinslow, age 89, of Glace Bay. Rosie passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Taigh Na Mara Continuing Care Facility in Glace Bay, with her devoted son Arthur at her side.
Born June 4, 1921, in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Mary Grace (Miller) Gilmet.
Prior to retirement, Rosie worked as the Floor Manager at Hopkins Fish Plant in Glace Bay. For many years she enjoyed occasional walks along Renwick Brook and found great pleasure in preparing her daily 12 o'clock dinners for her boys. She opened her home to all.
Rosie is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 72 years, Harold; daughter, Mary (William) Robinson, Sydney; sons, Ernie (Marion), Glace Bay, Russell (Eileen), Glace Bay, Arthur, Glace Bay; grandchildren: Keith, Darlene, Lianna, Tracey, Gordon, Ronald, Stephen, Karen, Valerie, Arlene, Brian, Melissa, Wendy, and Todd. Also surviving are siblings, Shirley, Joyce and Wilfred. She will also be sadly missed by her great grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Donna; brothers: Roy, William Raymond, Gordon Victor; sisters: Alma, Joan and Eva.
The family would like to thank the staff of Taigh Na Mara for their wonderful care during Rosie’s lengthy stay.
Visitation for Rosie will be held Monday, March 14, 2011 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. In honoring Rosie’s wishes, cremation will take place. Interment will be in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in Rosie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society.
