JOHN GORUICK
Lieu de naissance : Saskatchewan, Canada
Lieu de décès : Saskatchewan, Canada
John passed away peacefully on July 3, 2009 in Moose Jaw Sask at the age of 84. He was the oldest son born on Dec 3 of 1924 to Fannie (Adamache) and Mike Goruick who resided in the Lakenheath and Stonehenge districts. John attended school in Lakenheath, Stonehenge and Twelve Mile. Dancing was a very social part of John's young life and this is where he met his future wife, Lois Lindner and were married on Oct. 6 of 1951. After their marriage they took over the Goruick family farm which was close to Twelve Mile Lake. Lois passed away in 1957 and left John a single parent with three small children. He tried to juggle both farm duties and a job in Assiniboia at the local Co-op. With the help of the immediate family, arrangements were made and John was able to continue for a while. John remarried in 1962 and then moved to Assiniboia. He spent his free time with square dancing and bowling. The later years in Assiniboia were spent working at Shell and Texaco Service Stations where the customers remember John with a joke and smile along with good honest service. John took up fishing and became an avid fan who traveled with his buddies to Thompson Lake and he also attended many of the singles dances held in Moose Jaw. This is where he met Helen. In time John moved to Moose Jaw to live with her. They traveled on a few cruises, attended TOPS, and Sunday mornings were kept for brunch at Smitty's. John continued to fish, and look after any little patch of soil that could be seeded into flowers or vegetables at their home. John won his battle against cancer and remained in his home until other health problems forced him to take up residence at St. Michael’s Chateau and then Extendicare in Moose Jaw. We will remember John for his passions in life: the spotless Ford vehicles, his love of polka music and dancing, fishing, working in the soil and his easy smile with those who loved to have fun. Predeceased by his wife Lois and his sister Helen Goruick, and his brother George, John is survived by his sons Ray (Karen) of Moose Jaw, and Brad of St. Albert, AB, his daughter Janet of Estevan, SK., brother Bill (Shirley) of Assiniboia, sister Doreen of Hamilton, ON.; sister–in-law Beryle Goruick, seven grandchildren and one great- granddaughter as well as nephews and nieces. Funeral Service was held on Wed., July 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Paul’s United Church, Assiniboia SK. Tribute was given by Jake Porter.
