Charles Boyd

1917-2011 - The death of Charles Joseph Boyd occurred on March 14, 2011 at the Riverview Manor in Bath, NB. He was 94. Born in Johnville on February 12, 1917, Charles was the son of the late Louis and Margaret (Keenan) Boyd. Charles attended school in Johnville followed by The Carleton County Vocational School in Woodstock, graduating with a diploma in Agriculture. He farmed for 80 plus years at the family farm in Johnville. He loved working on the farm woodlot and working with animals. For many years he travelled through western New Bruswick purchasing lambs and trucking them to Saint John. He enjoyed reading, hunting, four-wheeling, ski-dooing and music rarely passing up a chance to attend a dance at the Silver Slipper in Perth. He loved playing cards and often would clear up the supper table to get a game started. In his younger years he enjoyed directing and acting in local plays. He was a member of Saint John the Evangelist parish in Johnville, a member of the Knights of Columbus and on the perpetual care committee of the Johnville Cemetery. Charles was an active member of the liberal party and was an original founding board member of the Carleton Co-operative as well as belonging to the Federation of Agriculture. Charles is survived by his children, Timothy (Lise) of Grand Falls, Edward (Janice) of Johnville, Margaret Boyd (Michael Pickard) of Beechwood and Carol Boyd (Kevin Smith) of Fergus, Ont.; five grandchildren, Anthony, Bill, Dan, Elizabeth, and Martha; one great-granddaughter, Brooklyn; and one sister, Clara Taker of Aylmer, PQ as well many close nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States. He was predeceased by his parents, loving wife, Rita (McLaughlin), son Joseph, and his sisters, Mary Rideout, Helen Pierce, and Elizabeth McLean.
Visitation will be held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville - Bristol on Thursday, March 17, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 18, 2011 at 11:00 am from St. John the Evangelist Church, Johnville. Fr. David Fulton as Celebrant. Interment will be in the Johnville Cemetery at a later date.
