Many people will walk in and out of your life — only a few special ones will leave footprints in your heart — that describes our Marie.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a loving wife, stepmother, nana, aunt, sister, niece and dear, dear friend.
Marie passed away peacefully, with loved ones by her side, in the An Cala unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Saturday, July 18, 2009.
Marie grew up in Dominion, graduated from MacDonald High School; and graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1969, where she worked for 17 years in pediatrics — followed by working in the ER department and finally, retiring from the longterm care department at Cape Breton Regional Healthcare – Glace Bay site.
She spent her happiest days at Kytes Hill Drive in Sydney. She enjoyed working in her garden; music, dancing, skiing and golf . . . and especially loved being at their cottage in River Denys.
Marie is survived by her devoted husband, Richard; brother, Joey McCormick, Hamilton; mother-in-law, Delores Mahoney; brothers-in-law, Michael (Geri), Wendell (Joanne), Robert (Lana), Charles (Kathy); sisters-in-law, D-Anna Mahoney, Carole (John) Buchanan, Lena (Jim) Petrie; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews; her precious grandchildren, Sasha, Mabel and Archie; and a wide circle of friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Helen (MacPherson) McCormick.
“And, just at that moment, when someone at my side says “she’s goneâ€, there are others who are watching her coming . . . and others voices take up a glad shout “here she comes, she has arrivedâ€.
Visitation will be held tomorrow (Tuesday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday, 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Rev. Leo Boone officiating. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery.
